Report to: Director of Analytics

The Position

User Research at DoSomething.org is embedded within the data team and a this role will serve as an advocate for the needs of members and young people alike.

As a user researcher at DoSomething.org, you will….

  • Lead efforts to build up best practices to ensure a user-centered design approach for how DoSomething.org evaluates and delivers on the most impactful experiences
  • Partner with stakeholders to frame complex user problems and leverage various research methodologies to assess solutions.
  • Collaborate closely with multiple teams within the organization to identify and prioritize research topics in a fast-paced environment.
  • Be responsible for scoping and executing research projects (often with overlapping timelines) and providing insights that will drive key product and campaign decisions.
  • Leverage a broad and dynamic toolkit to determine the best approach and conduct research from strategic discovery about user needs to tactical evaluations of design decisions.
  • Synthesize feedback and strong communication ability  to distill the most impactful insights
  • Act as the voice of our users across the company by socializing  insights both in regular team discussions and broader reports and presentations.
  • Work collaboratively within the data team to assess larger user trends and determine strategies for further investigation and/or synthesis.

The Requirements

  • Start Date:  ASAP
  • End Date: Flexible, during fall 2018
  • Able to work, in our Flatiron office, 20 hours per week
  • Must have:
    • A broad range of methodologies including but are not limited to personas, user journeys, feature assessments, various usability studies.
    • Strong writer and editor, and willing to provide a writing sample
    • Strong understanding of strengths and shortcomings of various qualitative and quantitative research methods, including when and how to apply them during product phases
    • Experience conducting 1:1 interviews--in-person and remotely, facilitating group conversations, running diary studies, running surveys and orchestrating usability tests
    • Experience with qualitative data mining and sentiment analysis of large textual datasets
    • Demonstrated success influencing product and design decisions based on research insights
    • Knowledge of research principles and experiment design & facilitation
    • Excellent interpersonal, communication, negotiation, and collaboration skills
    • Incredibly organized
    • Experience using a variety of user research tools (such as UserTesting.com, Optimizely, Ethnio) and familiarity with recruiting
