Product Management and Member Experience Intern - Fall 2018

Reports to: Product Manager

Overview: is constantly looking to improve our core product and value proposition to better meet our user needs. Through user research, help us identify user confusion and frustration with our current offering and validate concepts to effectively address these problems.

This intern will be required to work 12 hours per week from September 10-December 14. This position is paid $13/hour.

What you’ll do:

  • Oversee the day to day support operations for hundreds of thousands (seriously) members
  • Provide daily on-brand membervolunteer support through Slack, Zendesk and in-person communication
  • Create bi-weekly reports that give staff insights into what our users are saying about our product

User Research

  • Create interview protocols: Put together the step by step experience you want users to walk through and the questions you’ll ask at each step.
  • Secure Interviewees: Recruit, screen, and schedule members and other young people to participate.
  • Conduct User Interviews: Might include usability tests, need finding interviews, and more.
  • Summarize and Champion Findings: Put digestible reports together with action items for various teams based on your findings. Advocate for the user in product design reviews based on your research.

Product Design

  • Create user flows: Design user flows to help visualize new user experiences.
  • Design wireframes: Create wireframes to clarify new features.
  • Write specifications: Create and clarify specifications, annotations, and issues for new features we’re rolling out.

Quality Assurance

  • Write test cases: Put together test cases to support Quality Assurance so we can launch new features that are bug free.
  • Conduct Quality Assurance testing: Team test out new features so we catch major bugs before shipping them to production.

What we’re looking for:

Must haves:

  • A people person!  You’ll be on the front lines analyzing issues that our members face and we want somebody who embodies the DoSomething spirit
  • Impeccable organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Background in product design, a social science (e.g., psychology, sociology, behavioral economics), or a related field.
  • Curiosity. How does our product ecosystem and the underlying technology work? What assumptions is making in its product design? Why have we made certain decisions in the past? Challenge us on our decisions and assumptions!
  • Passion. For science. For delivering a delightful experience. And most importantly for social change.

Nice to haves:

  • Experience conducting user research and testing, running social science experiments, or conducting interview or observations.
  • Great customer service skills and a confidence cold calling users.
