Business Development Associate

Reports to: VP, Business Development

Start Date: ASAP is a movement to create the most socially active generation in history.

  • We fight for our members every single day. We care deeply about activating our 5.5million members around the world to make impact in their communities.
  • We believe in young people. We believe all young people have the agency to create social change and we provide them with the guidance to make it happen.
  • We don’t hire just anybody. We work hella hard, we move super fast, and we’re a bunch of weirdos. We want people who get excited to come to work at our dynamic office every day.
  • We genuinely stand behind who we are and what we do. No faking it here. Everyone on our staff has their own “why” for coming to work every day. What will yours be?

We have the stability of a 25-year-old organization, but we look, feel, and operate like a tech-forward startup.  We’re looking for an entry-level, business-savvy person to join our Business Development (Biz Dev) team. Biz Dev is tasked with creating and securing partnerships with top brands to elevate our impactful campaigns and fund Your successes will be an essential part of the organization’s success.

The Biz Dev team is small, scrappy, and hungry. You’ll wear many hats, but here are some of your main responsibilities:

  • Achieve Annual Revenue Goals. First and foremost, we’re responsible for achieving our annual revenue goals and we work as a team to support each other.
  • Supporting the Strategy (40%). You’ll support the team by drafting research briefs on partners, designing decks in google docs, maintaining spreadsheets, scheduling meetings, assisting with department mailings (yes, the IRL postal mailing!), and a variety of other tasks to keep us all doing our best work.
  • Sponsor Management (15%).  The Campaigns team manages fulfillment of partnerships you lock, but you’ll still remain a key contact for sponsors. You’ll attend weekly partner calls to ensure the relationship remains strong and to listen for opportunities to better serve our partner. You make their business, your business.
  • Corporate Research (15%). Research new corporate partners for DoSomething that are on-brand and genuinely care about cause, and pitch these prospects to the Biz Dev team.
  • Event Support (10%). Help the Biz Dev team and organization at-large plan for major events by organizing invitation lists, selling tickets and tables for our gala, and maintaining RSVPs.
  • Foundations and Individuals (10%).  Support the Biz Dev team to by providing research and reporting for revenues streams beyond Corporate and Event support.
  • Salesforce Management (10%).  Help the team stay on top of all contacts and opportunities by owning our CRM, inputting new contacts, and building reports to monitor our progress.
  • Be a Face of DoSomething. As a member of our revenue-generating team, you’ll be “on” all the time, and represent DoSomething consistent with our brand values: relevant, inspiring, and never just meh. You’re social, but you’re also substantive.  People leave conversations with you feeling smarter, more motivated, and excited to take action.

About You:

  • Experience and comfort using G Suite. We are ‘Google Docs’ people and expect this teammate to know their way around all G Suite apps… and maybe even teach us old pros a thing or two!
  • You’re the most detail-oriented person you know and are a strong project manager. You get excited by the prospect of hitting a goal by any means necessary. You don’t settle and you don’t let tight deadlines diminish the quality of the project!
  • You thrive under pressure. Multiple deadlines, competing priorities, and pitching to CEOs are all in a day’s work. You know how know how to work efficiently and balance your time to get the most out of every minute of the day.
  • You’re an exceptional communicator, translator and writer.  You can hear what a person says and doesn’t say, you understand non-verbals are a major part of the package, and you can pivot accordingly.  You’re a strong enough writer that you can adapt your own voice to be consistent with our brand. You love grammar! And, know when to break the rules! (See what we did there!)
  • You’re passionate. There’s a reason why DoSomething excites you; whether it’s social change via tech or the power of young people, you support it all!
  • You have a ‘no job too small’ mentality. Some days we’re pitching CMOs.  And earlier that day we’re running to Starbucks to pick up coffee for an afternoon meeting.
  • You’re on time and dress for the day you have. When we’re meeting with external partners, we must always be ontime (AKA, 10 minutes early) and ‘dress for the day we have.’
  • You’re ambitious. You love the idea of being our Business Development Associate and turning every task (even managing Salesforce) into an artform.

  • 3 weeks vacation plus the week between Christmas and New Year’s (and Summer Fridays from Memorial Day to Labor day -- office closes at 1:30), fun office environment, a spot on our summer kickball team, occasional brownie bake-offs. Plus, you don’t have to come to work on your birthday.
  • 100% medical premiums covered. Yep, you read that right.
  • Five (or 6? We’re losing count.) different ways to make coffee. We also have tea, if that’s more your thing.
  • is an equal opportunity employer (Although we do reserve the right to discriminate against people who wear white socks with dark shoes...)

Pretty please, no calls.
